Downloadable Games to Play on Your Computer
The Download Process
saves a file to your computer. A file that is downloaded can be scanned by
a virus scanner before opening the file. Below are the steps involved in
downloading a file:
1. Click on a downloadable link.
2. A dialogue box appears asking if you want to save the program to disk.
Make sure you note the location (or change to a preferred location), so that you
can find the file after it is downloaded.
3. If you prefer, you can click to scan the file with your virus scanner
software. This is always a good step to take. The virus scanner can
ok the file, which can then be opened. If a virus is found, simply delete
the file (DO NOT OPEN IT). Of course, you will want to update your virus
program on a regular basis.
4. Once saved double click the file. This will open a box telling
you that the program is not a distributable program (because I'm using a
evaluation program for the moment -- free for a 30 day trial).
5. Click ok, which will open a zip file dialogue box asking where the file
should be unzipped to (usually the Windows\temp directory). When you click
ok, the file is made back to the rich text format file (for these games) and you
can open it.
The games that can be played on the computer are actually freeware programs
found on www.tucows.com (which incidentally
has lots of shareware and freeware software. These programs can be shared
with others and installed at no charge.
