Home:    North Central Africa, Western Ethiopia to Senegal in the woodland margin habitats, steppe and savanna areas

Food:    Grass seeds, new shoots, acacia gums, arthropods, berries, fruit, and tamarind tree beans

Size (length with tail & weight):    2 to 2.5 feet
                                                               approximately 17 pounds

Life Span:    21 years in captivity

Patas Monkey Trivia:

  • The Greyhounds of the Monkey Family, the Patas can run at speeds of 35 miles an hour.

  • The cheeks of the Patas Monkey are used for storing food.

  • The Patas Monkeys have 4 fingers and a thumb on each hand.

  • The Patas Monkey uses a variety of grunts and chattering to communicate with their troops of 5 to 74 monkeys.
