Home:  Tropical forests of East Brazil

Food:  Fruit, insects, small birds, bird eggs, tree saps

Size (length with tail & weight):    8 to 10 inches
                                                                approximately 1 pound

Life Span:    16 years

Marmoset Trivia:

  • Marmosets live in groups of 3 to 8 or more.

  • Marmosets come in several different species.

  • The talkers of the South American jungles are another name for Marmosets and Tamarins.

  • Marmosets converse in bird-like chirps and trills.  They also use facial expressions to convey their feelings.

The exotic pet trade has posed a big threat to the remaining Marmosets and Tamarins.  Importing these primates from the wild is now illegal.
