What Would You Ask the Zookeeper? How can I work at a zoo when I grow up? Answer: There are many exciting zoo careers. You can find out about them on our Jobs at the Zoo Page. How do they keep the tigers from eating everybody? Answer: Even though most of these tigers have been handled by people in the past, they still have wild tendencies. To protect zoo visitors, zoo keepers and the tigers themselves, the zoo has created strong pens for the tigers to live in. At feeding time, the tigers run into the big cat building when they see their supper arrive. The keepers can shut the tigers in a smaller pen located in the big cat building. This allows the zoo keepers to clean the tiger playground and feed the tigers safely. How come bears and lions can't be friends at the zoo? Answer: When bears and lions are born, they have a sense called an instinct. An instinct similar to the senses of sight, hearing or smell. This instinct is given to them to help them live safely in the wild. Instinct tells them which animals may hurt them. As a result, bears fear the lion may injure them and lions fear the bears could hurt them.
