5 REASONS WHY YOUR PET SHOULD BE WEARING AN AUSTIN PET REGISTRATION TAG!

1.  We have the only 24-hour live lost & found hotline in the capital area!

Finders of lost pets can contact the owners directly, so . . .

many pets are returned home without ever having to be brought to the animal shelter.

But, we can't put the finder in touch with you, or tell you where your lost pet is if you don't tell us how to reach you!  Please tell us promptly if your address or phone numbers change . . .

because reuniting lost pets with their owners is what we're all about!

2.  Our "Vacation Alert" feature protects your pet even when you travel!

Pets that are separated from their families may feel abandoned and rejected, and may succeed in escaping a yard or house from which they would ordinarily not try to escape.  Even those pets that get to come along on the trip may inadvertently slip out an open door and quickly become lost in unfamiliar territory.

When a pet owner goes on vacation, a simple phone call can add to the pet's file the information regarding the location of the pet (at home, being boarded, traveling with the owner, etc.) and the name and number of the person responsible for the pet during that time.

We are please to have helped reunite with their owners a number of pets which were lost out of state.

3.  Guaranteed emergency medical care *

The City of Austin will provide up to $300 worth of emergency medical care if your injured, tagged pet is taken to a veterinarian for treatment, even if you can't be immediately located to guarantee payment.

Equally applicable to residents of Travis County, since we provide a county-wide injured animal ambulance service.

*pet owners are expected to reimburse the City for veterinary fees.

4.  Animal Control's "Red Carpet" Service

If your currently registered and tagged pet is picked up by Austin Animal Control, we will be happy to give your pet a free ride home* (certain provisions apply).

If we are unable to bring your pet home to you (for example, if you moved and didn't tell us!) and must transport your pet to the Town Lake Animal Center instead, you will save 50% on impound fees* (that's way more than the cost of the PR tag) when you come to reclaim your pet - and tagged pets are kept more than twice as long as untagged strays while animal shelter staff attempts to contact their owners!

*limited to one time per registration period so that repeat offenders don't get repeated discounts

5.  It's the Law for residents of the City of Austin

We know that most pet owners want to be law-abiding citizens.  Not only is the Pet Registration tag the best way to protect your pet, but keeping your pets currently tagged can help you avoid receiving expensive citations in the future.

Pet owners living outside the Austin city limits who wish to protect their pets are welcome to purchase Pet Registration tags also.  All benefits except Red Carpet apply.
