Austin
Pets Alive! is a group of citizen volunteers who are
committed to the goal of ending the killing of adoptable
pets at the Town Lake Animal Center, the Austin and
Travis County municipal animal control facility.
|
Austin
Pets Alive! was founded in 1997, when they began the No-Kill
Millennium campaign in Austin. Before the beginning
of Austin Pets Alive!'s No-Kill Millennium campaign, nearly
19,000 dogs and cats were killed at Town Lake every year
- nearly 72% of all the pets who entered the facility
were killed there. Now, the kill rate is down to
about 61%. The estimates are that the rate will
have to be brought down to about 35% to save all the adoptable
pets.
Austin
Pets Alive! also publishes the Handbill every day except
Wednesdays and Saturdays. If you would like to
be added to its distribution list, please send an e-mail
to handbill@hotmail.com
with the word 'subscribe' in the subject line of your
e-mail message.

About
us:
THSD is a non-profit organization that trains Service
Dogs and Hearing Dogs to assist people with disabilities.
Service Dogs assist persons with physical disabilities
by opening doors, fetching wheelchairs, retrieving
dropped items, operating light switches, moving paralyzed
limbs and getting help. Hearing Dogs are trained
to alert their deaf owners by touch and lead them
to everyday sounds, such as a door knock, smoke alarm,
telephone,
THSD adopts all of our dogs from animal shelters
and rescue leagues. Utilizing positive reinforcement,
we train the dogs, pair them with their new partners
and then train them as teams -- all free of charge to
the recipients.
THSD relies on donations from corporations, foundations,
and individuals. Those sponsoring the complete
training of a team are invited to name the dog.
Donations are tax deductible and may be sent to the
Austin office.
